Transforming Old Tassie Oak Flooring with White Timber Liming - Carnegie

Introduction - Tassie oak with white timber liming

At MyFlooring, we recently undertook a project to revitalise an old Tassie Oak timber floor for a client in Carnegie. The flooring had developed an undesirable red/orange hue due to the previous solvent-based polyurethane finish. The client wanted a more modern, neutral look, and we were up for the challenge.

Client Concerns and Our Solutions

The client was particularly concerned about two main issues: the colour of the timber and its overall wear and durability. After removing the carpet from the bedrooms, it was clear that the old polyurethane finish had to go. To address these concerns, we proposed sanding the timber back to its bare state and applying a white timber liming treatment.

The Design for the Client

We suggested a neutral lime finish for the entire property. This approach would not only modernise the look of the Tassie Oak but also prevent the timber from reverting to its previous orange colour. Our team meticulously sanded the timber to prepare it for the liming process, ensuring a smooth and even application.

The Outcome

The transformation was remarkable. The neutral lime finish gave the flooring a fresh, contemporary appearance, completely eliminating the old red/orange tones. The client was thrilled with the result, appreciating the subtle, elegant look that the white timber liming provided.

Benefits of Loba Water-Based Polyurethane

To ensure the longevity and durability of the new finish, we used Loba water-based polyurethane. This product offers several advantages:

  1. Eco-Friendly: Loba water-based polyurethane is environmentally friendly, emitting fewer VOCs compared to solvent-based products.

  2. Durability: It provides a robust, long-lasting finish that can withstand daily wear and tear.

  3. Clarity: The clear finish enhances the natural beauty of the timber without altering its colour.

  4. Easy Maintenance: Floors finished with Loba water-based polyurethane are easier to clean and maintain, keeping them looking new for longer.

By choosing Loba, we ensured that the new limed floors would remain beautiful and durable for years to come.
