Blending Modern Design with Elwood’s Coastal Charm
This apartment project in Elwood came with a clear design vision. The client was undergoing major renovations, including the kitchen and bathroom, and wanted the flooring to match her modern interior style while staying true to the relaxed, boutique vibe of Elwood.
Her existing timber floors felt dated and didn’t reflect the high-end finish she was looking for. Our role was to sand the timber back, create custom lime wash samples, and deliver a finish that combined both sophistication and durability.
Before Sanding – Floors Ready for Renewal
The original timber floors had seen better days, with visible wear and an outdated tone that clashed with the client’s modern renovation plans. Sanding was the first step to remove the old finish and bring the timber back to a clean, natural base.
Lime Wash Samples – Exploring the Options
As with many of our projects, the lime wash process began with custom samples. Contrary to popular belief, lime wash isn’t just “white” — it comes in a wide spectrum of shades.
For this apartment, we prepared a series of samples for the client to compare. She wanted something deeper and richer than the traditional pale lime look, and after testing, she selected a darker, more contemporary lime wash tone.
Final Result – Modern Interior, Coastal Character
Once the lime wash colour was chosen, we sealed the floors with water-based polyurethane. This finish provided the durability needed for apartment living while maintaining a natural, matte look that works beautifully with modern interiors.
The deeper lime tone gave the timber a refined, boutique feel—perfectly complementing both the new kitchen and the broader Elwood lifestyle aesthetic.

Before & After – A Furnished Interior Transformation
To showcase the transformation, we created a before-and-after comparison of the finished interior using our interior furnishing AI tool. The furnished images highlight how the new floor tone anchors the apartment’s modern design, while still feeling connected to the relaxed, coastal feel of Elwood.
