Introduction/Summary

Blending classic charm with modern extensions often means diverse timber types. In this Gardenvale project, we tackled original Baltic Pine with borer damage, Vic Ash, and even a Baltic Pine-Vic Ash inlay. Discover how MyFlooring's expert bleaching and Rubio Monocoat limewash system transformed these varied timbers, achieving a light, consistent aesthetic that won't yellow, while highlighting the unique scientific benefits of Rubio Monocoat for lasting protection and beauty.

The Gardenvale Canvas: A Blend of Old and New

This recent project in Gardenvale presented a fascinating mix of original Baltic Pine (front, with borer damage) and newer Vic Ash in the back. The dining room even featured a unique Baltic Pine with Vic Ash inlay. The existing glossy finish and varied tones didn't align with the new extension's sleek, modern, white interior. Our mission was clear: unify these diverse timbers with a consistent, contemporary look.

Crafting the Vision: Samples to Harmonise Differences

Our client envisioned a deep, rich brown and oak colour using Bona stain. We knew the softer Baltic Pine timber absorbs much more than the denser Vic Ash, leading to natural variations. To ensure satisfaction, we created meticulous samples for the client to see the final colour on each specific timber. This allowed them to appreciate the subtle, natural depth that would emerge, and they loved the unique interplay of colours.

The Perfect Finish: Rubio Monocoat for Lasting Beauty

To seal and protect this stunning transformation, we opted for Rubio Monocoat finish. This exceptional product complements our staining process beautifully:

  • Molecular Bonding: It bonds directly with the wood fibres, ensuring the pigment is embedded into the timber, preventing flaking and resisting yellowing over time.

  • Enhanced Colour Depth: It accentuates the stain, allowing the deep brown and oakey tones to resonate without dulling.

  • Natural Look and Feel: Unlike high-gloss polyurethanes, Rubio Monocoat leaves a natural, matte, or satin finish, letting you feel the wood's texture.

  • Eco-Friendly: With 0% VOCs, it's a healthy choice for your home.

  • Easy Maintenance & Repair: Its unique bonding allows for seamless spot repairs.

The combination of Bona stain's rich colour and Rubio Monocoat's advanced protection created a floor that's both visually stunning and exceptionally durable, perfectly unifying the Gardenvale home's varied timbers.
