Sanding, Bleaching, Lime Washing & Waterbased Polyurethane Finish
When two distinct timbers meet in one home, blending them into a cohesive style takes skill. This project involved a property with Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring—Baltic Pine at the front of the house and deep red Jarrah at the back. While both timbers are stunning in their own right, the sharp contrast between them made the home feel divided. Our challenge was to bring harmony across the entire floor by sanding, bleaching, lime washing, and finishing with a durable waterbased polyurethane.
Sanding Baltic Pine and Jarrah Flooring
The first step was a complete sanding of both timber types. Sanding Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring requires a careful approach—Baltic Pine is soft and light in tone, while Jarrah is dense and naturally dark red. By sanding both areas evenly, we created a clean surface ready for colour treatment and finishing.
Bleaching Baltic Pine and Jarrah Flooring
Once sanded, the colour difference between the front and back of the property remained strong. To soften the depth of the Jarrah and bring it closer in tone to the Baltic Pine, we applied a specialist timber bleaching process. Bleaching Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring lightened the Jarrah’s intense red tones, helping reduce the contrast while keeping the timber’s character intact.
Lime Washing Baltic Pine and Jarrah Flooring
After bleaching, we applied a lime wash across the entire home. Lime washing Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring creates a lighter, fresher look while bringing greater consistency between the two timbers. The lime wash added a unifying layer of colour, helping the Baltic Pine and Jarrah feel more balanced throughout the property.
Finishing Baltic Pine and Jarrah Flooring with Waterbased Polyurethane
To protect and enhance the work, we finished the floors with a waterbased polyurethane. This option is ideal for Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring treated with lime wash, as it provides durability without adding unwanted yellowing. The result was a natural, matt finish that highlighted the new balance between the two timbers.
The Result: Blending Baltic Pine and Jarrah Flooring
The transformation was striking. Where once there was a strong divide between the pale Baltic Pine at the front and the deep Jarrah at the back, the floors now feel much more connected. Through sanding, bleaching, lime washing, and sealing, the Baltic Pine and Jarrah flooring now carries a harmonious flow, reducing the contrast and creating a more unified look across the home.
