Parquetry
Parquetry is precision-milled and is designed to be glued down over a solid, flat subfloor. It can be installed over concrete, over a plywood or particleboard subfloor or over old timber floors.
Myflooring's standard procedure of floor installation.
- Site inspection and check the floor level
- Preparation - scrapping plaster boards and cleaning
- Level the concrete if required [additional charges will apply]
- Install moisture barrier seal with bostik products if required [additional charges will apply]
- Lay your choice of parquetry floor with or without borders.
- Install quads around edge of the floor if required [additional charges will apply]
Notes:
- Moisture barrier seal: we normally recommend application of a moisture barrier seal prior to laying parquetry. Even dry, old concrete has the potential for water damage.
- We only use Bostik Ultraset solvent free timber glue
- Skirting boards must be removed (or not installed) while parquetry is being laid. Myflooring can also install small quads to cover the expansion gap [10mm] between the floor and wall.

Restoration of City of Caulfield Council foyer by Myflooring.
This job involved removing off old parquetry, grinding off old concrete surface, applying a moisture barrier, laying new parquetry, sanding, staining the timber to match the color and coating with gloss finish.
In order to meet the re-opening schedule of the gallery, Myflooring's dedicated professionals worked through Saturday and Sunday.

Strip Floor
Standard procedure of floor installation by Myflooring.
1. Concrete slab:
- Site inspection and check the floor level
- Preparation - scrapping plaster boards and cleaning
- Level the concrete if required [ additional charge will be applied]
- Install moisture barrier film to the concrete
- Install plywood [12mm] by hand driven metal anchor
[ We don't use ramset gun because we find it can cause concrete cracking]
- Laying 12mm overlay solid timber floor or 19mm traditional T&G solid timber
2. Bearer and Joist
- Site inspection and check the subfloor level.
- Level the joist if required [additional charge will apply]
- Laying 19mm T&G with Top nailer or secret nailer
- Secret nailer can be used for the floor board less than 85mm width.
Notes:
- Existing skirting boards will need to be removed or Myflooring can expertly place quad after the floorboards have been installed (addtional charges will apply)
- The subfloor needs to be level with tolerance of 5mm over 3 liner meter, otherwise, level sanding or leveling compounds can be applied ( additional charges will apply)
- Timber must be acclimatized before laying, perferably for around tree to four weeks or longer if possible.
Things to be considered
- Moisture contents
Most timber flooring products are kiln dried to a level of moisture content within a range of 8-14 % ( as specified in the Australian Standard 2796). Where timber is installed where the prevailing conditions are moist, either through the local climatic conditions or specific site conditions, the timber absorbs moisture which increases the dimensions of the board.
Conversely, where prevailing conditions are drier than that of the timber, the timber will shrink.
In flooring, Shrinkage or expansion is generally most apparent across the width of the board, rather than the length. Over a floor area, the combined affects of board shrinkage or growth can be substantial if the change in moisture content is high. The wider the board, the greater potential for movement. Additionally, for some species of timber, their physical changes will be greater and potentially more rapid than for other species in the same conditions. Softwoods generally absorb and expel moisture far more rapidly than hardwoods.
- Movement in Timber Floors
Timber is a natural product and will absorb and lose moisture during its life. Consequently, strip flooring will always exhibit some movement between individual boards. During dry weather, small gaps may appear between individual boards. These gaps will tend to close up during periods of higher (air) moisture content. The selection of finishes can also impact upon the ability of the floor to make these movements evenly and without “edge” bonding.
Localised movement of timber (in a certain area of the house or room) can be caused by heat sources such as heaters, direct sunlight through windows and glazed doors, hot air released from electrical equipment or other sources of heat. Generally the exposure needs to be for relatively prolonged periods for localised shrinkage to occur.
Air-conditioning may also impact upon the movement of boards by reducing the air moisture/humidity levels in the room. With prolonged use, the boards will tend to acclimatise to the air-conditioned environment, which is generally drier than the prevailing conditions.
The boards may subsequently shrink leaving gapping between boards. If the environment is to be continuously air-conditioned, let us know - Myflooring can ensure the boards are acclimatised to these dry conditions, or specified appropriately.
